NYC Food Guy’s Fast Food: Wendy’s Spicy Baconator…Ugh

Date April 3, 2008

I know what you’re thinking and I’m thinking the same thing. Fast Food. Why? Because sometimes men do stupid things. That’s how I’m feeling now after devouring the greasiest burger I’ve ever encountered: Wendy’s Spicy Baconator. Two 1/4 lb. burgers (before cooking), 6 strips of bacon, Pepper Jack cheese, Chipotle Ranch Sauce, and Jalapenos.

wendys-spicy-baconator-017.jpg

800 calories, 500 from fat, 55.0 grams of fat, 24 saturated. 1,760 calories, 1,000 from fat, 111 grams of fat, 47 saturated. So was it worth it? No. Absolutely not. The jalapenos and chipotle ranch sauce soggied up the top bun while overpowering the entire burger with slightly spicy acidity. I already don’t care for Wendy’s burgers, they’re dry and pretty flavorless, so I knew what to expect. The bacon was equally weak, scraggly and shrunken (that’s what she said).

I am currently having trouble breathing.

Read on for more pics.

OMG 1,760 calories!? And I thought those Hungryman XXL’s were bad…this is just horrible….

Flush it out with plenty of water.

I’m still hurting. Heartburn and extreme food coma. All for the love of the game.

looks just like five guys’ nasty ass burger. burnt puke on a bun

    Comparable,

This sounds familiar. Sounds like the person who hates on Five Guys but has never even had it. Also sounds like someone who’s probably eaten McDonald’s and thinks that’s good stuff but still won’t try Five Guys. Does the fact that I’ve never met anyone who didn’t even enjoy Five Guys a tiny bit mean anything to you?

I think you goofed on the nutrition stats. Either that, or you ate two(!)of them. According to Wendy’s, the Spicy B’nator has 880 cal, 500 from fat, 55g of fat, 24g sat’d fat. Pretty hefty, but only half of what you reported. (The 11g of fat sounded wrong by itself.)

    Food For Thought-

You are so right. This was something that had to be done but was a definite mistake. Ive been regretting it all day, ha. It will be the last time I order a fast food burger for a long time.

    Stevenp-

I knew it! I had a feeling it was off. When I originally went to the nutrition facts earlier, it was automatically on two servings. I’m going to correct it now. Thanks for the fix. Keep up the good work. If I could return the favor it would be to not eat this burger.

  10. The NYC Food Guy said:

    Wonders-

Sorry about the confusion, the figure I initially reported was 2 servings worth.

hahaha. oh man, you’re a trooper dude. even i would not go near that thing. double whopper is about as far as i am willing to go, that with a side of 6 piece nuggets from mcdonald’s. that’s where it’s at! keep up the good work man, and keep some tums around.

    BK shits on wendys

  14. stevenp said:

fair ’nuff, altho I can’t imagine eating 2 of those! (I was considering getting one though, because despite your write-up, your pictures make it look good!)

I’ll heed your advice and hold off until I can make it to Houston’s or the Brooklyn Diner (or hopefully to Luger’s for lunch one of these days!)

lols 800 is still alot of calories for one sitting….just the fat itself is bad!

And as for five guys, people don’t know what they’re missing! I usually get a little bacon cheeseburger with some yummy crunchy pickles! Mmmm..I love their pickles…lols oh and their fries!

  16. DDR said:

    i love pickles too…

    Danny-
Don’t need no tums. That’s for the weak.

    Owned-
What you talking about? Look back a bit instead of just shouting out. I responded to stevenp.

    King-
I agree, BK craps on Wendy’s. Best thing they ever had was the Homer Simpson Whopper. Bacon, 2 kinds of cheese, double whopper.

    Stevenp-

I say go for BK diner. Get a vanilla egg cream too. You will not be disappointed. Let me know how it goes and where you end up.

    Wonders-
Thank you wonders. Five Guys IS delicious.

    NYC Food Guy swallows!!!!!

That burger looks like someone took a dump on a bun, and then the food guy ate it.

Would you try ANYTHING food guy? Can you please review that new Taco Bell cheesy beefy melt? That thing looks pretty good.

Also, did the spicy baconator fill you up? Did you go with the value meal? I bet you substituted fries for a side salad!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Sally May said:

hmm i’m not sure I would ever eat fast food but that burger doesn’t look too bad!

P.S. this is the best food blog on the world wide interweb handsdown!

  20. The NYC Food Guy said:

    Sally May-

You’re my kind of gal. That’s the adventurous spirit I like to see. I would advise you not to eat this burger however. Thanks so much for the kind words. I really appreciate it. Any suggestions for some more places to review?

    Man in green-

That new cheesy beefy melt looks retarted but I will try to give it a whirl one of these days. That commercial is so stupid.

The spicy baconator filled me up like a grease bomb. it was not good. I was hurting for the rest of the afternoon. Full on food coma. And no I replaced the medium fries with a large fries. Side salad my ass.

I’m sorry to clash with most of the comments here, but I absolutely love the spicy baconator. I work out quite a bit, so I can afford to eat them often. I agree that the bacon is weak, but other than that, I believe it’s a perfect harmony of taste!

  22. The NYC Food Guy said:

    Alan,

You’re a braver man than I. I was hurting afterwards and that takes a lot. If I’m going to go for a fast food burger though I’m probably headed to Burger King. Too bad there’s no In and Out or Tommy’s in Manhattan.

  23. Justin M. said:

After seeing this I wanted one, but they no longer carry this item. Bummer dude….

  24. The NYC Food Guy said:

    Justin M,

Dude, trust me when I tell you, you’re better off without it.
