After the disaster at Backstage Deli last week, I went right to Lenny’s to satisfy my Midtown sandwich fix Thursday night. I ordered a Smoked Chicken Deluxe hero ($7.99 for hero or wrap, $7.25 on a roll; you should always get a hero), substituting the requisite smoked mozzarella with American Cheese and adding some Russian into the mix. I had three of these delivered for my friends and I and each was still hot and delicious; even the toasted hero held up. The only time Lenny’s has ever disappointed NYC Food Guy was when I ordered a roll instead of a hero.

Chicken Cutlet, Grilled Pastrami, Lettuce, Tomato, Dill Pickles, and Russian; a combo that never disappoints.

NYC Food Guy’s old standard at Lenny’s is usually the G3, a hero with grilled roast beef, crispy bacon, grilled onions, melted American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and I replace the A1 Steak Sauce with Russian. That is a heartstopper and though the Smoked Chicken Deluxe is equally bad for you, it’s a little lighter, but not much, as you can see below. Look at that deliciously disgusting melted American melding with the Chicken Cutlet and Russian:

Looking at the color of the tomato, pastrami, and even the lettuce, we know the ingredients are all fresh and delicious:

Long story short, Lenny’s hasn’t disappointed me yet. There’s 10 locations all over New York. While I can’t speak for the other 9 branches, the spot on 48th street between 5th and 6th Ave. has always been solid, even in the midst of the Midtown lunchtime rush.

NYC Food Guy advises the hero over the wrap, roll, and any sliced bread solely due to value. You end up paying $0.75 more for nearly twice the sandwich, a NYC Food Guy no-brainer. I’ve only had the Smoked Chicken Deluxe and G3, so if you know of any other consistently reliable sandwiches, leave your comments below.
