On the seventh day, the Lord rested. … and made Tim Tams. Go to the Tuck Shop, Manhattan’s best and only Australian bake shop, immediately and buy Tim Tams. Fifteen cases just arrived and they’re going fast. For those of you who are late to the party, Tim Tams are the best packaged cookie ever made. I liken the taste to chocolate EL Fudge cookies filled with silky chocolate and dipped in milk chocolate.

Australian Packaging, Worldly Deliciousness
You haven’t heard of them because they’re Australian, which only makes them more awesome. But now, Pepperidge Farm is selling Tim Tams at Target stores until March 2009, which means we only have 5 months to stock up on Tim Tams and tell Pepperidge Farm we want them to stay. Good thing for us, Tuck Shop, on 1st Street between 1st & 2nd Avenue, is selling Tim Tams FOREVER! I’ve introduced them to at least a dozen people in the last few weeks and everyone says they’re delicious.

Australia & America, Together At Last
Amazingly, Tim Tams are not even the most delicious dessert at Tuck Shop, where they specialize in Australian street food (nothing like the Halal Guys). In fact, two of the best desserts I’ve ever had can only be found at Tuck Shop: Lamingtons and Vanilla Slice. Click here for even MORE deliciousness.

NYC is the city that never sleeps, but in reality, quality 24 hour restaurant options are lacking. Forget the diner and the corner store, it’s time for you to check out Sarge’s Delicatessen on 3rd Avenue between 36th & 37th street. Since 1964, this kosher-style deli has been serving up overstuffed pastrami sandwiches, crinkle cut skin-on french fries and a long list of comfort food that would make Grandma proud. You can’t really go wrong at Sarge’s but read on for two dishes that got the job done.

NYC Food Guy Note: I’ve returned from my trip to California with a wealth of food to review but I’m going to keep the NY Food Tour alive to focus on providing deliciousness in a quick and efficient style.

- What: NYC Food Guy’s favorite late night slice is also my favorite in the West Village. The Nonna Maria is covered in fresh mozz, grated grande mozz, and house-made marinara sauce before being sprinkled with freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano. The cornmeal covered crust takes backseat to the robust, flavorful toppings.
- Cost: $2.75
- Website: http://bleeckerstreetpizza.com/
- Where: 69 7th Ave South at Bleecker Street NY, NY 10014 212-924-4466
- Inside info: Forget Joe’s Pizza for late night slices, Bleecker Street Pizza is open until after 4AM on weekends and there’s actually room for you to sit and enjoy your slice. They also sell beer and small bottles of wine so you can keep the party going while you enjoy your slice.

NYC Food Guy Note: I’m on vacation in California so I’m sending you on a NY Food Tour to keep your stomach happy while I’m gone. Enjoy the deliciousness.

- What: Decadent vanilla custard, with a consistency similar to banana pudding, sandwiched between two slices of pastry puff covered in vanilla icing. What more do I have to say? Despite its sloppy appearance, it remains one of the best desserts I’ve ever had.
- Cost: $3 for a massive slice
- Where: 68 East 1st Street b/t 1st & 2nd Avenue NY, NY 10003 212-979-5200
- Website: http://www.tuckshopnyc.com/
- Inside info: Tuck Shop serves Australian street food including delicious meat pies and lamingtons (pound cake with jam in the middle rolled in chocolate and coconut) until 5AM on Friday & Saturday. Pick up some Tim Tams, on the popularity level with Oreos in Australia, from the tiny grocery section. They’re the best packaged cookies I’ve ever had. Look into the Tim Tam Slam for maximum enjoyment.

NYC Food Guy Note: I’m on vacation in California so I’m sending you on a NY Food Tour to keep your stomach happy while I’m gone. Enjoy the deliciousness.

- What: Forget Pommes Frites, Ziggiz serves Manhattan’s best and biggest order of fries for a mere $2.16! Thin, crisp and double-fried, these fries are even better after a night on the town. You can get an overflowing order of addictive and delicious fries until 3AM Thursday and 5AM Friday and Saturday.
- Cost: $2.16!!!!
- Where: 333 3rd Avenue near 25th Street NY, NY 10010 212-683-3663
- Inside info: All the other food at Ziggiz is standard grease pit fare, including their namesake burgers, cheese steaks and burritos. Quesadillas and burritos come with onions in them so make sure to speak up if you don’t want them. Stick with the fried stuff here (mozzarella sticks and chicken fingers) and you can’t go wrong.

NYC Food Guy Note: I’m on vacation in California so I’m sending you on a NY Food Tour to keep your stomach happy while I’m gone. Enjoy the deliciousness.
What to Eat:
Quesadilla Simple ($5.00) filled with salty, stringy queso oaxaca and fresh pico de gallo. Delicious even without the side of salsa verde. Best quesadilla Lil’ NYC Food Guy has ever had. Thanks to Mark Lewis for recommendation.

Carne Enchilada Taco ($3.00) grilled achiote rubbed pork, cilantro, onions, pineapple, salsa verde. The perfect combo of spicy (tender pork & tangy salsa verde) and sweet (chunks of fresh pineapple).

Papa, Nopales Y Chorizo Taco ($3.50) chorizo sausage, potatoes, cactus, salsa verde. More of a textural adventure with combo of spicy chorizo, starchy potato and crisp yet bland (like cabbage) shredded cactus. Better with a squeeze of lime.

- What: Informal, Affordable & Authentic Mexican Taqueria open until 2AM nightly.
- Where: 106 Kenmare Street b/t Lafayette St. & Cleveland Place NY, NY 10012 Delivery:646-613-1333
- Website: http://www.esquinanyc.com/
- Inside info: The taqueria is a front for the “secret” Mexican restaurant downstairs. You can only reach it by reservation or knowing someone at the door. It’s a scene but it’s also a great date spot.

Bacon wrapped deep fried hot dogs with all the toppings your imagination can conjure. Crif Dogs, on St Mark’s near Avenue A, is the cheap late night eats (open till 2AM Thursday, 4AM Friday & Saturday) spot that dreams are made of.

Above you’re looking at the Good Morning ($4.50), a bacon wrapped deep fried dog resting on top of a slice of American cheese and a fried egg and a bacon wrapped deep fried dog covered in melted cheddar, chili and jalapenos ($6.23), a creation of Lil’ NYC Food Guy aka my brother.
The Good Morning is awesome although the Chihuahua is still my favorite. Read on for more madness.

We’re all on the hunt for NYC’s best tacos so when we hear that Snack Dragon is serving cheap tacos in Alphabet City until 4AM on weekends, we have a reason to be excited right? Wrong. I hit Snack Dragon sober and had five tacos, only one of which was actually delicious. It’s unfortunate they were out of Carnitas pork, the self-proclaimed best and the only one I really wanted, because the chicken, steak, and fish were all lackluster.

The Nacharito above was the one standout. So how do you mess up tacos?

Nothing like a nice pile of grease for breakfast. That’s what Big Daddy’s Diner presented one morning in the form of their “What About Bob” breakfast sandwich. This self proclaimed “best breakfast sandwich on the planet” falls a little short of that if you’re looking to start your day off right. This would be a great hangover cure if the restaurant wasn’t so cheesey and bright. And speaking of cheese, they make one of the cheesiest grilled cheeses I’ve ever encountered. One of their locations is also 24 hours on weekends. Curious yet?
Will NYC Food Guy return? Read on to find out…

French Fries. They’re NYC Food Guy’s guiltiest pleasure. That being said, only a few places in the city really do something special with our potatoey friends. I’m a purist at heart but I can’t turn down fries slathered in melted cheese or chili or both. I’m here to direct you to a few spots who exemplify French fries at their finest…

Read on for some of the greasiest, crispiest, heart-stoppingest, and most delicious French Fries this city as to offer…

NYC Food Guy loves the East Village for its culinary variety and it’s old school New York vibe. What better way to celebrate the diversity than a food tour? But with almost 300 eateries south of 14th Street and east of 3rd Avenue, how would I narrow my tour down? Simple, I imposed two requirements: 1) A meal had to be under $10 and 2) There could be no wait staff. Bonus points awarded to late night spots.
Miss Menu & I hit 6 spots Sunday and were pleased with every spot except one. Read on for bacon wrapped hot dogs, Thai food in a baguette, excellent Sicilian pizza, authentic Mexican tacos, surprisingly good steamed veggie dumplings, and some unique crepes…

Though their sign reads “Burgers, Philly Steaks, Burritos”, Ziggiz, a grease-pit which caters to Baruch students during the day and Murray Hill/Gramercy drinkers late night, is a place the NYC Food Guy craves mainly for their gluttonously large pile of addictive, skin-on, crispy, thin-cut French fries ($1.99).

One order is sometimes not enough, trust me I’ve seen it.
